Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Issues
As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) lawyer, I personally understand the frustrations that members of the Deaf community have gone through. Iglesia Martell Law Firm also understands how important effective communication is to fulfillment and success in the workplace, and how employers may struggle to understand that. Denial of interpreters, discrimination in the workplace, and other issues of discrimination are legal matters we can help you with.
Examples of situations where a Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individual may be wrongfully denied reasonable accommodation:
- Job-related trainings, meetings, or promotional interviews
- Medical Appointments
Part of our holistic philosophy means exploring solutions with you that are right for you. We believe that education and advocacy are important tools for promoting positive change. We have done workshops for both the Deaf community and the hearing community to help bridge the gaps in understanding between both communities. We also do work with local government offices, like the Police Department, the Public Defenders’ Office, and the Friend of the Court, to improve cultural awareness for the offices’ interactions with the members of the Deaf community.
If you are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing, and your reasonable request for a sign language interpreter was denied, please contact us for help. We also offer other legal services for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community. Please refer to the menu on the left for other ways we can be of service.
